Don't waste or discard that precious rainwater. You can use rain barrels or buckets to collect rainwater for use in your garden during the summer months. Not only is this good for your garden, but it will also save you money. Water from natural rain costs you nothing and there is usually a plentiful supply. Rainwater is a plant's natural friend.

An organic garden doesn't have to be restricted to a few types of plants. You can grow anything. A lot of plant varieties love acidic soil, and they will thrive well in mulch. Use pine needles or decomposed leaves to mulch around these plants in the fall. When the pine needles are decomposing, they release natural acid onto the ground beneath them.

You can kill weeds naturally. Use several layers of newspapers for weed control. Weeds require sunlight to continue growing. The layers of newspaper will kill the weeds because they no longer receive any sunlight. As an added benefit, the newspapers will decompose over time, becoming organic compost. Add visual appeal by placing some mulch over the top.

Grow organic garlic. Plant organic cloves in spring or fall and use moist, drained soil. Each clove should be planted end-up, four inches apart and between one and two inches below the surface of the soil. Green garlic can be cur directly from the plant and used in a pinch instead of scallions or chives. When your garlic tops are turning brown in color, they are ready to be dug. Leave the bulbs out to dry and exposed to the sun for a few days so that the skin hardens a bit. Store the bulbs separately or tied in loose bunches in a cool place.

You can create your own organic pest repellant by mixing onion, garlic, and chives with some water to make your own anti-pest spray. First, dice an onion, garlic clove or bundle of chives into a fine consistency. Next, add these ingredients to one-half cup of water, then use a strainer as you pour the concoction into a sprayer bottle.

Plant trees strategically to maximize the amount of natural share over your home. This can save you money on electricity, as the trees will cool the area, which means the air conditioning doesn't have to work as hard.

Research the local botanical insecticides which can be useful in deterring the pest population. Sometimes the natural insecticides can be even more powerful than the engineered synthetic pesticides on the market. The distinguishing factor of botanical varieties is that they will decay much more quickly and will be eliminated from your environment faster.
